My Favourite TV Shows

I am a strong believer in the beauty of television. Lazing around on a Sunday afternoon is never complete without multiple cups of tea, bourbons and my favourite shows.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I get recommendations from people for TV shows to watch, I usually go “Yeah, yeah”…and then never do it. What!? I’m busy.

But after 5 or 10 people tell me to do it, I start to think that maybe I should actually watch them.

EVERY TIME I finally watch one of those recommendations, I realise my friends were right and I was just being dumb.

So in the spirit of sharing the best things I’ve watched recently, I thought I’d share some of my favourites. 😘

Keeping Up With The Kardashians

KUWTK is an extremely funny series and very light hearted. It follows the lives of the Kardashians; Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall, Kylie, Rob, Kris and shows the insane reality in which they live. This show is very funny and is definitely something to watch if you are in need of a laugh! 😝

What happens when a young FBI Special Agent is suspected of carrying out the greatest instance of domestic terrorism since 9/11?

The concept for an excellent show happens, that’s what. 👏🏼

I have several thoughts on this show, most of them positive and intriguing.  I love that Alex is played by Priyanka Chopra, who is a former Miss World and who is a huge Bollywood star. I also love that she’s strong, both in her body and in her will as a person.

Scream Queens

Scream Queens certainly does not portray college sorority life in the way that most other TV shows and films do. It’s not all about massive parties and casual hook-ups, but rather the show follows the lives of the girls in the Kappa sorority house and their terror as a masked red devil is out to kill them. So clearly not your average American college show! By only four episodes in six people have already died (don’t worry this doesn’t spoil much, it’s very obvious what’s coming)! 🔪

Despite how unrealistic and overdramatic this show is, it’s definitely worth a watch and I guarantee you will be just as hooked as I am!

New Girl

If you are looking for a fun, hilariously written sitcom, this is your show. New Girl is about a young woman (Zooey Deschanel) who moves in with three single guys after a bad breakup.  The storylines are literally laugh out loud funny, and the show is super easy to marathon because each episode is only 22 minutes long, so you can fly through a season pretty fast. It’s going to make you laugh so much though, I promise. Please give it a try! 🙏🏽

The Mindy Project

It follows the antics of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, a New York City OB/GYN, and her colleagues at their practice of Shulman & Associates. The comedy centers on Mindy as she struggles to work, date and later be a single mom in New York.

If Mindy Kaling in all her majesty alone is not enough to get you to watch, I don’t know what will… 😱

American Horror Story

I’ve always been a sucker for suspense and horror movies, so it would only make sense that this television series caught my attention. I watched the first season in the span of a few days, and caught up with the current season in a day or so.

One of my favourite aspects about AHS is that each season presents a different horror story. The first season focuses upon the tale of a haunted house and a family’s struggle to overcome the curse of death to the residents of the house hold; the second season, entitled Asylum, depicts the gruesome story of the history of the Briarcliff insane asylum for the mentally ill.

It’s hard to believe that the writers of the show are some of the same writers as the bubbly and musical styled show Glee. I definitely would recommend watching this show for anyone who is a horror or thriller enthusiast and isn’t weirded out by disturbing scenes and crazy story lines! 💀

The show revolves around a family with deep roots in hip hop music. This American musical drama has two big names among its cast; Terrence Howard and Taraji P Henson. Terrence is Lucious Lyon a former gangster who is now a hip hop mogul suffering from a terminal illness and has outrightly told his sons to compete for his throne. However, Lucious and his gangster lifestyle haven’t parted ways and his old life comes back to haunt him. Then there’s Taraji who plays Cookie Lyon the outspoken ex-wife of Lucious and the mother of Lucious’ sons. The show is the next best thing on TV with a combination of great drama and good music. 🎶

Hot shot New York lawyer Harvey Specter takes on a brilliant young protégé, Mike Ross, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the law despite never having actually attended law school. The two work big money cases and navigate the cutthroat world of corporate law while trying to keep a lid on the secret that could destroy them both. 👔

The Big Bang Theory

TBBT has extremely clever writing, a hilarious ensemble cast, and a commitment to scientific accuracy. I don’t know how many other shows actually keep an actual theoretical physicist on staff just so all their science jokes can be feasible, but The Big Bang Theory does. 🔬

The Vampire Diaries

I’m a sucker for The Vampire Diaries. Let’s face it, a million different vampire books/shows/things have emerged since the success of the Twilight saga, and a lot of them aren’t very good.  However, TVD is my favourite vampire-themed storyline of all the ones out there.  TVD is a love story about a human girl torn between two vampire brothers.  Unlike a lot of TV series, I think this one gets better each season, with no shortage of surprises and twists.  And I MIGHT have the biggest crush ever on one of the characters. *cough* Damon Salvatore *cough*

Friends aired for 10 years, from 1994 to 2004 and it guarantees 20 to 22 minutes of laughter for every episode. The show isn’t only funny, but very relatable. If you’re in your 20s or 30s, there is certainly a Friends character you can see yourself in. There isn’t a Friends character I don’t love. Friends is one of the best shows that had ever aired. It made me realise that humour is a great way to get through life and that friends are the ones who make your life worth wile. I dedicate this post to all my real friends! ❤️

Pretty Little Liars

After their friend Alison is murdered, four high school girls are harassed and manipulated by a blocked number identifying itself as “A”.  The show is mysterious and suspenseful, and you’ll constantly be coming up with new theories as to what is going on and who “A” is.  It isn’t entirely realistic, but it is fun to get caught up in. It is also a great marathon choice because the storyline is a little drawn out, so you don’t have to wait week after week for new clues. 👠

Prison Break

I devoured this series.  The plot is about a structural engineer (Wentworth Miller) who intentionally gets himself thrown into prison where his brother is (innocently) sitting on death row, intending to use his knowledge of the building’s structure to break them out.  I think the concept of the show is brilliant, and the first season especially will have you on the edge of your seat, wondering if they’ll be able to make the escape or not. 💉

Glee is so clearly not realistic, not true and not possible. It’s literally perfect. Teenagers are simply too easily swayed. Our emotions and hormones are crazy, and we’re clearly a few hundred thousand steps away from being able to figure out who we really are. But that’s what makes me watch it! It’s nice to dream of the perfect student life, but it’s even more fun to sing along to your favourite songs that they cover! 🎤

Where to start with Revenge? It’s such an amazing show and is one of my favourite TV shows! Revenge is about Emily Thorne who is really Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for treason when she was a little girl. David Clarke (her father) was then imprisoned for life and murdered in prison by the people that framed him. Emily now seeks revenge for her father. As the series goes on we learn about Emily and her past and the revenge she has for the Graysons.🔥

Gossip Girl

I was very late to the party when it came to GG, only starting it early this year. Gossip Girl follows the lives of a group of privileged teenagers who live on the Upper East Side in New York, they’re all incredibly rich and incredibly dramatic, and it was great to have on whilst I was doing some college work. But that soon changed and I found myself completely addicted. Even though it seems like an over-dramatic, teen drama to begin with, I can tell you there’s more to it – especially as the seasons progress. If you’re one of those rare people (like me) that didn’t watch Gossip Girl in its prime, I’d suggest you get on Netflix and prepare to binge the hell out of it. 👸🏼

The show Misfits is a British series filled with comedy, drama, and fiction. It’s about a group of five young people in there 20s doing community service who gain supernatural powers during an electrical storm. This experience draws the group of offenders closer together to bring them on a journey of discovery and craziness! Misfits is saucy and edgy.

That 70s Show

This show is centred around a group of friends in Wisconsin in the 1970s on the verge of adulthood. It’s a show that reminded me of Friends, there is no particular plot and each episode portrays a different situation the friends get themselves into. It’s witty, hilarious and I feel like teenagers nowadays can still relate to the problems portrayed in this sitcom. The fact that this show is so alike Friends, which is one of my favourite shows of all time, makes it even more likeable. I’d definitely recommend it to people to watch when they’re bored or as a stress reliever.

Orange is the New Black

This Netflix Original Series is about a woman (Piper Chapman) who is given a fifteen-month prison sentence for transporting drug money a decade ago.  The ensemble of characters is extremely diverse and entertaining, and the plot is a good mix of comedy and drama.  Oh, and it taught me that I definitely wouldn’t last in prison.

On Power, the brilliant and debonair owner (James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick) of New York’s Truth nightclub also happens to be one of the largest drug distributors in the city. While the club is a front to wash money, he decides he wants to finally leave the drug world and go legitimate but that’s easier said than done.

My Wife & Kids

The family-friendly comedy My Wife & Kids stars multi-talented comedic actor Damon Wayans. Damon Wayans stars as Michael Kyle, a loving husband and modern-day patriarch who rules his household with a unique and distinct parenting style. When wife Janet becomes a stock market trailblazer, his life as he knows it changes forever. His only son Jr. idolises gangster rap stars instead of him. His moody, adolescent daughter Claire addresses him only when she wants something. And his youngest daughter Kady rarely lets her Daddy have the last word. As he teaches his three children some of life’s lessons, he does so with his own brand of wisdom, discipline and humour. With Wayans at the helm, this is no ordinary family comedy.

How I Met Your Mother:

 Haaaaaaaave you met Ted?

It’s very difficult to pick a favourite TV show when there’s so much great content out there. While I do love a great drama or game show, comedy is still my favourite genre and, true to form, I would say HIMYM will always be one of my fave TV shows (though this is subject to frequent changes of heart). It’s certainly not the most original show to have ever aired but packs a lot of charm and, for me, a great deal of replay value. The show is based on a main character, named Ted Mosby, who retrospectively tells his future children the story of everything he went through in the run up to meeting their mother and his future wife.

I have to be honest I love watching a good TV Show, a lot. I love going back and re-watching my favourites time and time again.. One thing though, I absolutely hate to answer the question “What’s your favourite TV Show?” It’s painful to even think about choosing one TV Show above all of the rest. They are all fab. I just can’t choose.. it’s just not fair to ask that from me, so I decided to make a blog for you guys. One thing is for sure, this list will keep growing over the years and I am curious how many favourites I will have towards the end of my days.

I hope you guys enjoyed this blog post, don’t forget to like and follow my blog! 💗
