Review: Netflix’s ‘Girlboss’

HELLO MY LOVELIES!

This is on a similar topic to my last blog post, GIRL POWER. 👸🏽

Netflix in this day is an absolute must. As an avid Netflix browser, finding new and interesting shows is a weekly activity for me. Upon my browsing, I stumbled on a Netflix original series, Girlboss. Although going into the show, I had no idea what the plot line was, I was instantly intrigued with the way it tells a story. Not only of a 23 year old entrepreneur, but also a story of an empowered young woman. 😛

“Sophia, a misfit, discovers a passion for fashion, becoming an unlikely businesswoman in the process. As her business grows, however, she has to learn to cope with life as her own boss.”   – IMDb

At first, I did not know what I was getting myself into. But, as time went on and the story played out, Sophia became one of my favourite characters on a TV show. I don’t truly know what draws me to her exactly, but her personality and spontaneous actions related with me on a personal level. I loved her rock bottom start and her exploration of herself to “figure out life”. 💅🏽

The show tells the story of Sophia, and her rise to fame as a business entrepreneur selling vintage clothes on eBay. It is a loose retelling of the original founder of the company NastyGal, Sophia Amoruso. She goes through trials and tribulations that work against her, but in the end works out in her favour (I will not spoil the ending for you, you have to go watch it!!).

One of the most important topics portrayed in the show, is women, and how they’re Girlbosses. I personally loved the way they portrayed Sophia, as a women who had no idea what she was doing with her life, to a business owner doing what she loves. The idea that a women can start a business and be a girl boss is so so important in today’s world, and spreading the empowerment that women can do these things was definitely displayed in this show, and displayed incredibly.  Women are so powerful, and can do amazing things when they put their minds to it! ✨

Not only are the messages portrayed in the series important, the things that come out of Sophia’s mouth are hysterical. Here are some I think are the best in the entire series:

“I am a girl. And that shouldn’t be a bad thing. Girls are collaborative, empathetic, hard workers. Girls are great!” 👯

This one is so self explanatory. Greatest moment in the whole show in my opinion. 💸

yooo

This one is so me. All the time. Trying to get my life together. 🌸

Sometimes, you just need to be a boss. 👅

IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN GIRL BOSS YET, I RECOMMEND YOU DO. GO OUT THERE AND BE YOUR OWN GIRL BOSS!
